show and tell

Hi Mixed MediumTheatre Viewers!

Sorry that I 've been missing in action lately. I have actually gotten quit busy in the past week (which I am absolutely thrilled about!!!). I can't handle having nothing to do, so this change of pace is greatly appreciated.

Anywho - here's part 1 of my Cabaret, I hope you enjoy it.

ps. please vote on"Which Musical Theatre dream role would you choose" 1 DAY LEFT!!!!

Skins

If you haven't already watched the Brit Teen Hit Skins, you really should.

This BAFTA- winning show is probably one of my favourite TV shows of all times. I am NOT, I repeat NOT talking about the American remake also called Skins. I couldn't even get through the first episode of the US version. It word for word tries to embody the raw brilliance of the original cast and epically fails. I don't know what they were thinking.

Today I went shopping for the first time in quite a while.

My favourite treat that I bought is this Blue Bicycle Mug from Urban Outfitters.

Sound the Alarm

Red has been my colour of choice lately.

Over the Christmas holiday I discovered this lovely scarf in my mother's closet.
Most of my favourite items are my mum's old things!
Growing up I despised the colour, for some reason. I loved blues, purples and greens, but never red

this is a colour of many meanings:
blood
love
evil
pride
jealousy

Another new red trend for me is my bright red lipstick. Originally bought for the stage, Rimmel London's 170 Alarm is now my favourite colour to wear on a fun night out.

profile

In my 2nd year of theatre school I was interviewed for a local post secondary magazine called profile edmonton for their arts addition.

I just reread it.

I am a kind person, even though the tone of this article isn't what I would call 'kind'.
It's interesting how tone changes everything.
At least I got some nifty pictures!

If I Was A...

SUPERHERO
Who Would I Be

Yesterday my friend R asked me which superhero I would like to be...I wasn't sure. I hadn't really gave it a lot of thought - I just knew that I really want to play a superhero at multiple points in my life.

I took a good 2 hours with our good friend wikipedia and went through every female superhero under the sun. After looking at these ladies/mutants for a long time, I started to feel really good about my 'self-image'. They all have lots of muscle, curves and look like they eat, which is extremely refreshing!

I came up with my top 5!

Aurora
Jeanne-Marie Beaubie

X-Men

* she's Canadian
Powers: Superhuman speed and durability,
Flight.

Instant Bollywood

Last night for Oh Susanna! I was introduced (by my friend K) to a new form of dance - Bollywood.

I started off my day with a Bikram yoga class, my 7th class in a row. I grabbed some food and was off to learn a new dance. That's right folks, I learnt a 5 minute dance number, 3 hours before we performed it.

I was slightly hesitant at first, just because I had never done this style before!
It was instant fun. K had great moves and energy. Doing the dance instantly made me smile. You can't not smile!

K used this song for our Bollywood number.

I can now add Bollywood to my styles of dance!

8 Days A Week

At the yoga studio that I go to, it's the first 30 day challenge of the year! I decided to do a little mini challenge of my own. I am doing 8 days of hot yoga in a row!

Today was my 6th day - so far so good. To be honest I am getting tired, not to mention sore. Waking up for those "earlier" yoga classes is some times difficult, but oh, so worth it!

The thing I really like about hot yoga is what it makes you do outside of class! You have to drink more water and eat better, because you don't want to eat a bacon cheddar burger before class - you just don't! And when you chow down on your homemade chocolate chip cookies, you don't feel guilty because:
 1. you deserve it and
 2. your just going to sweat it out tomorrow!

for me...please

PLEASE - pretty, pretty, please can I have these!?!

Aren't they perdy!

The first person I ever saw rock the gold high heel taps was Michela Marino Lerman in Tap Into A Cure, 2009
I have been hooked ever since!

Another sexy las that rocks the gold high heel tap shoes is

Where can I get these shoes you ask - Dancing Fair Pro Tap Shoes

I should probably start out with some basic black high heel taps,
but these are my dream shoes!

I actually really need some high heel tap shoes for an upcoming show, but alas - I do not have the cheese!

Birthday present ?? ?

Jay Baruchel
This Canadian born actor has had a crazy past year!

Jay first won me over with The Trotsky, a very Canadian film set in Jay's home province - Quebec. If you haven't seen it you really should. It's so refreshing to see a young actor playing a character - not just himself with a different name.

Most of you (who still enjoy animated films...so everyone) will most-likely know Jay's voice as the lead character Hiccup in How To Train Your Dragon

Jay's other 2010 credits include She's Way Out Of My League and The Sorcerer's Apprentice.

Next up for Jay, he is reppin the maple leaf once again. Jay has written the screenplay and is also staring in an unlikely hockey story: Goon

Send In The Clowns

This is the most interesting arrangement of Send In The Clowns that I have heard.

This classic is extremely easy to do wrong ( for example Catherine Zeta Jones at the last years Tony Awards)

The piano is absolutely amazing and so flattering.
It's uneven and off balance and I like it.

Quote of the day.

Cabaret Time

kick the sick.

I am not telling you to go kick a sick person - that would be cruel!

So a day before my Cabaret, my throat started hurting. The 'it hurts to swallow' kinda sore throat.  Great, what perfect timing!

What I did to prevent this issue from affecting my Cabaret:

Day Before Cabaret
        1. gargled with salt water
        2. oil of oregano
        3. throat coat - organic lemon echinacea tea + honey
        4. didn't sing and barely talked
        5. yin yoga
        6. mentally went through my song with music

Day of the Cabaret

        1. gargled with salt water
        2. oil of oregano
        3. throat coat - organic lemon echinacea tea + honey
        4. lightly hummed through all of my songs with music
        5. Redoxon C (best vitamins ever!)
        6. did recovery warm up
        7. sang through the newer songs in my cabaret

We shall see how it goes tonight - fingers crossed

Post Cabaret
It was surprisingly well! Voice held out just fine and I had lots of fun making my patter up and just going with it!
I am definitely going to do more Cabarets or even open mikes in the near future!

Cooking with Chelsea: Chocolate Smoothie

Chocolate Banana Peanut Butter Smoothie

My Mum used to treat the kidlettes to a Chocolate Banana Peanut Butter Smoothie, the most scrumptious thing in the entire world.

As an adult I still crave this yummy treat, I have just given it a healthy upgrade.

Mum's Version
        2 bananas
        2 scoops vanilla ice cream
        1 cup milk
2 tbsp Cocoa or chocolate sauce
        1/3 cup peanut butter
        1 egg
My Version
1 banana
1 - 1 1/2 cup milk of your choice
2 or 3 ice cubes
1 serving chocolate protein powder or cocoa powder
1/3 cup  Natural Peanut Butter

I had it before yoga this morning with protein powder and it kept me going through the entire class!

Hand In Hand

After rehearsal the other day I was reading Dance Magazine and came across a very interesting and relevant article!
Your Body: Taking the Heat by Jen Peters discusses the pros and cons of dancers that practice Bikram hot yoga (aka ME)!

In the article you hear from different Bikram dancers about their experiences.

Kathryn Mowat Murphy "swears that it has injury-healing, emotion-strengthening, toxin-flushing, weight-managing, and career-extending effects." (Par. 1) So far in my practice I fully agree.
The article goes on to talk about Bikram Yoga's origin and how it has now become a "popular warm-up spot" (par. 3) for professional dancers.
There are warnings, such as over stretching ligaments and dehydration. This article  gives you information on how to "sweat smartly" (par. 7).
I hope this encourages more dancers to try Bikram yoga. It has really helped me with my dancing, and also in my mental health. I find that yoga of any kind always leaves my body smiling!

90 minutes of moving meditation for this cold blooded gal, is absolute bliss!

I met Max in 2007, while filming the oh, so interesting Triple Sensation Season 1.

We have stayed friends through FB ever since.
