A New Name

[London Fashion Week]

Hey gang,
I hope this finds you well. I've been thinking a lot lately about my blog, even though my online presence has been a bit quiet. First of all, this blog will no longer be called, Mixed Mediums Theatre. It is now the new and improved, Girl In The Houndstooth Coat. I know it's a bit of an essay as far as blog titles go, but it's me. I was never wild about my old name and I've been wanting to make the change for almost a year now, so I finally went ahead and did it!

I know I'm not always posting on this blog, but I am constantly reading other blogs. One of them posted an interesting podcast about blogging. One thing that really stuck with me from it was that they mentioned that a lot of bloggers keep promising to blog more, be more consistent, or commit to weekly posts. They made it sound that if you can not do this, then you are not a blogger. I have realized over this contract of Hairspray, that those are things that I myself can't commit to and I'm ok with that! I hope you are too!!! I think blogging should be about sharing memories or inspiration, it should not be a chore. It should be an impulse, or something you look forward to. An outlet of creativity.

The inspiration for my new title came from one of my favourite pieces in my wardrobe. If you're a pal of mine you've probably seen me in this coat a thousand times. It's the love of my life. My dream coat which is from the 70s and made in Switzerland. Handed down to me by my Mother, this sucker has been my main coat since the age of 16 and it's been all over the world with me.

So here's to a new name! Thanks to all of you that have been reading from the very beginning and most of all to my sister, Nicola. Who inspired me to start this blog in the first place! Also, I'm gonna be trying out a few different headers for the blog, please let me know which one is your favourite!

Flowers and Brick

For my 2nd to last Sunday in England my dear friend Ana and I decided to go on an adventure. I'd never been to the Columbia Road Flower Market and as Spring is just around the corner it felt very fitting. We met at Bethnal Green station and made our way over to the market. Good heavens, it was busy! 

 I wanted to take one of each of these tiny cactuses home, but alas they wouldn't fit in my suitcase! I did however buy some lovely purple hyathis flowers, purely for their delicious smell!

Since we were in the area if felt silly not to go to Brick Lane for one last romp! And after Brick Lane it felt even more silly to not visit Spitalfields Market as well! I absolutely love this area of North London on a Sunday. It's so lively and wild. 

Here's something you haven't seen on this blog for ages... outfit photos. There just hasn't seem to be a time or a place as of late to take ootd shots until now.  Finally some photos of my new boots in action. Thanks, Ana!!!

Here are some ridiculously silly pictures from my dear friend Nic's birthday party! It's a was a 1920's fancy dress at an actual Speak Easy near Earls Court. I had to work that evening so I was only there for a very short period of time, but I had such a hoot.

Birthday with a B: Birthday Blitz

So I pretty much feel like the luckiest girl in the world after this past weekend. I've never been one to go 'all out' with Birthdays, but this year I suppose was the exception. Actually I think it was more so good luck and good timing. Good timing came in the form of the Blitz party. If any of you have read my blog since last year you'll know that I went to the London Blitz Party, the monthly 1940's vintage event this past New Year's Eve and had one of the best nights of my life. So what better way to ring in my Birthday than with some of my best friends in full vintage style. Nothing!

My good friends Nic, Paddy, Remi and I hit the dance floor about nine thirty, right in the middle of the first live set. We literally entered and streamer cannons went off. It was pretty surreal! We danced our little hearts out, bought a Spitfire beer, and kept on boogieing! Nic and Paddy went as Rosie and Dick Riveter. Remi and I were their upper class friends, more specifically Remi was the eldest son of an American Steel family. I went as a bomb girl out for a night on the town. We met, love at first sight.

The night was brilliant! Nic and Paddy also surprised me with an amazing Birthday present and a hilarious card to boot! I'll show you some pictures of them later.

 If anyone is every in London you must try and catch the Blitz party! You must go!
