Great! Now that you have written down what is important to YOU - Here are Sian's notes!
Sian's 5 Lifestyle choices that impact your chance of injury:
- Nutrition
- Sleep
- Hydration
- Knowledge of your own body
- Mind/body connection
Purpose of a warm-up:
- brings blood to the muscles
- tunes in the nervous system
- sharpens your proprioceptive awareness
- brings mindful focus to the work at hand
Why treat an injury:
- decrease healing time
- increases chances of correct healing
- damage to the proprioceptive nerves can be addressed, allowing for less chance of repeat of injuries in the same area
- Increases the chances of taking the required amount of rest and addresses the emotional realities of dealing with an injury
- it rules out any other underlying reasons for the injury in the first place - decreases bone- density, nutritional lack, etc
- it gives you a guideline for returning to training
Sian's golden rules to prevent, or assist in healing injuries:
- if it hurts - stop
- when you're tired - this is NOT the time to challenge yourself or try new steps/routines
- healthy eating is a lifelong commitment to a body that is strong, flexible and injury free
- after injury, rebuild your strength and involvement slowly * don't ask your body to do what it was capable of before you had to rest
Sian left us with this!
Remember: Injuries happen to the strongest and most professional and disciplined of dancers. It is not WHETHER you get injured, but how you DEAL with that injury that truly defines you.
