The Renaissance of Ballet

Ballet was born during the time of the Renaissance, and now it is being reborn once again!

Thanks to TV shows like: So You Think You Can DanceAmerica's Best Dance Crew and Dancing With The Stars, dance has really made it's way back into our culture.

It still has a long way to go compared to our friends in Europe, but at least it's there for everyday people to watch!

Ballet has recently been reborn, thanks to the highly talked about film...yes, I know you know what I am talking about - Black Swan.

This 'R' rated movie has shown the world how sexy ballet can be.

I am convinced that ballerinas are some of the most beautiful people in the world.

Just look at Alberta Ballet's new piece Stumbling Toward Ecstasy!

In this video clip we see the dancers rehearsing for the show in their tiny little costumes!

Ballet To Me...
is probably one of my favourite styles of dance to watch.

Doing it, on the other hand is a different story. Ballet is SO important to energize your other styles of dance, but is by far the hardest (for me).

I started up ballet again this week and oh my! It feels like a have re-grown my calves (You know in Harry Potter when he has to re-grow his arms...I think this is how it would feel)! I was dripping by the 2nd barre exercise.

If anyone in Edmonton wants to get their butt kicked by ballet, there are ballet classes on Wednesdays at 9:15am and  Friday 9:30am at Alberta Ballet with Heidi Bunting- they are amazing!
